Equine Photographer’s Network – 2015 Sombrero Ranch workshop started today

Well, we are underway here in Craig, Colorado! 🙂

This morning began with Todd and Jason dropping me off about 9:00 this morning to register for the workshop, get settled into my room, and be ready for the first thing on our agenda….a Photoshop course with the amazingly talented Sherron Sheppard.  If you haven’t checked out her work yet, head to her website at http://www.sheppardphotography.com/.  She is quite the fine art artist/photographer and I’m looking forward to learning a lot from her this week.

We also got a great overview of things to come and what’s to be expected by one of our leaders….Scott Trees.  I’ve admired his work for quite a while too.  You can see more of his talent at http://www.treesmedia.com/.   He is also the one responsible for creating the videos you may have seen me share on FB about the workshop on the Sombrero Ranch and the horse drive. He shared many images and videos from years passed and I can’t wait to get in on the action starting tomorrow!!  Bright and early….We have to be at the ranch at 6:00 so we are ready to shoot by sunrise. We will have several different sessions tomorrow and will shoot till sundown.  The weather is looking good, so fingers crossed….it stays that way. 🙂

I can’t tell you how cool it is to be sitting in the same room with Scott and Sherron and also Carien Schippers.  Carien is the whole mastermind behind the Equine Photographers Network which has been a huge learning resource for me.  Carien’s fabulous work can be seen on her website here…http://www.imagequine.com/.  These three photographers are like the pro athletes or celebrities of equine photography….so this is a big deal for me to be here with them! 🙂

The other cool thing that happens here is Mark, a rep from Nikon, comes and brings so much gear for us to use at no cost.  Camera bodies and lenses of all shapes and sizes to try and experiment with.  The downside for me….I shoot Canon. 😦  And apparently Canon has no interest in sending one of their people to do the same.  For this trip, I think I will stick with my Canon gear and what I know..although it is tempting to play around with some Nikon stuff.

Anyway, I better get to bed.  4:30 will come very early in the morning.  Since I have no photos to share from today….here is the link to Scott’s commercial for this workshop. https://vimeo.com/123498072  Goodnight!  Will report back with photos tomorrow!

  1. Sounds amazing!! I will do one of these one day. 🙂 I can’t wait to see what you capture!

Re: Canon, I was just at ShutterFest a couple weeks ago and Canon had a TON of equipment and reps there for people to play with. Maybe they only have so much of a budget?

    • Thanks, Amy! I hope you do make it one day!! Thanks for the note about Canon. Scott said he’s contacted them about this many times over the years and, well…I guess it’s just not going to happen. Oh well….with my equipment and the couple pieces I rented from a shop in Minneapolis, I think I’m pretty well set with what I need. 😉
